Band Week – October 6

Attendance Reminder: If you miss more than one hour of practice due to an unexcused absence, you cannot go to the weekly game with the band. A doctor's note is considered an excused absence, allowing students to attend the game but not participate in the halftime show. 

Schedule This Week

• Monday, 10/6 – Practice 3:30–5:30

• Tuesday, 10/7 – Practice 3:30–5:30

  • • YayBand Contest Volunteer Meeting 4:30 - 5:30 

• Thursday, 10/9 – Go outside during band class for marching practice

  • • Jazz band practice 3:00 - 4:00

• Friday, 10/10 – Virtual Day; Away Game vs Robertsdale*; Parent volunteers signup here. 

  • • Robertsdale game is just for Contest band and Friday Night people that passed off the show (Jadier, JaHayden, Amilyah, and Keona)*

    • 4:45:  Call time, report to practice field for count run. All black, solid black undershirt, bibbers, long black socks, and marching shoes on when reporting to the practice field. 

      • • Put on hats and jackets when we return to the band room before loading buses. 

        • No one leaves the band room in the incorrect uniform.

    • 5:15:  Buses leave for Robertsale

    • 10:30 - 10:45 ETA for return to Davidson; please keep in touch with your student for a better estimate for arrival back to Davidson due to travel time

• Saturday, 10/11 - YayBand Contest

  • • Brief schedule breakdown below; full detailed schedule here

      • • 3:30 Report to band room; check all uniform pieces

        • 4:00 Support guest bands by sitting in the Davidson section

        • 5:30 Report to band room for visuals check and warm up

        • 7:10 Perform

        • 8:30 Complete your section's assigned job

        • 9:00 After party in cafeteria, $5 collected at the door for all non-band members, parents, and friends that are not registered volunteers - RSVP here

Student Weekly Reminders:

• Bring clothes for practice.

• Stay hydrated throughout the day.

• Bring a water source with your name on it to practices and games.

• Set a phone alarm for Sunday night weekly to pack your instrument for Monday.

• Practice minutes due for the contest band at the end of every month.  Minutes Submission Form 

  1. 1. 200 minutes for section members

     2. 400 minutes for section leaders

     3. Next due date Friday, October 31st

Parent Reminders:

• "Sorry. Can't. Marching Band Season" t-shirt preorder pick up at the YayBand! Contest under the merch tent - a list of paid preorders will be printed for pickup.

• Limited quantities of the black "I'm With The Band" and gray "Sorry. Can't. Marching Band Season" will be available for sale under the merch tent on October 11th. Stop by the merch tent early before it sells out!

• If you missed either preorder shirt sale, limited quantities of shirts will be available for purchase during the YayBand! Contest under the merchandise tent.

• Purchase football tickets this season:  GoFan - Davidson Home Games (All parents must purchase tickets unless signed up to volunteer with the band for home and away games.)

• Volunteer opportunities listed here. 

• Mr. Messer's "room" is set up in the MCPSS app. Please download the app on your device. If anyone cannot join the class they are supposed to be in, parent or student, email Mr. Messer and let him know. There are rooms for each period of band, color guard, and percussion.

• If fees are not paid, students cannot receive a uniform or attend the football game as part of the band. Pay On Cut Time Now
