High School Audition Requirements

WINDS

Scales (Memorized)

• 7 Scales: Concert G, C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db — with related arpeggios

  • Same octave requirements as All-State scale sheet

  • Clarification: Scales are in concert pitch

    • Example: A trumpet player plays their C scale for Concert Bb

  • Scales may be played:

    • In the order listed above, or

    • In the order they appear on the All-State scale sheet

      • Example: Trumpets may play Concert Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, G, C, and F

• A Melodic Minor: Given pitch (see All-State scale sheet)

• All-State Chromatic: (see All-State scale sheet)

• Students may only audition on one instrument

• Bass Electric Guitar students are not eligible to audition for MCPSS Honor Bands

• Students must be enrolled in a band class to audition and participate in the MCPSS Honor Band
